Sleepy Gut Gummies 🍒

Sleepy Gut Gummies 🍒

A Little Evening Ritual for Your Gut & Sleep

Prep time: 5 minutes
Setting time: Approximately 1 hour
Makes: Approximately 20 to 30 small gummies, depending on mould size

What if your evening sweet treat could also be packed with ingredients your gut will love?

These Sleepy Gut Gummies take just five minutes to prepare and combine tart cherry juice, grass-fed gelatin and our raw Beet Kvass into one delicious little bite.

They're naturally sweet, slightly tangy and full of ingredients with some pretty interesting science behind them.

And while they're not a magic fix for a bad night's sleep (we wish!), they're a lovely little addition to your evening routine.

Why We Love These Ingredients

🍒Tart Cherry Juice: Melatonin & Polyphenols

Tart cherries naturally contain melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate your sleep cycle, plus polyphenols, plant compounds that interact with your gut microbes.

Some research has also explored tart cherry juice for its potential to support sleep quality.

Our favourite: We love Eden Orchards Tart Cherry Juice for its rich cherry flavour and natural tartness.

🤍Grass-Fed Gelatin: Glycine & Gut Health

Gelatin is rich in amino acids, including glycine, which is involved in maintaining normal body tissues, including those in the digestive tract.

Glycine has also been studied for its potential role in sleep quality. While gelatin itself hasn't been proven to improve sleep or heal the gut, it's a lovely way to include these amino acids in your diet.

🌱 Beet Kvass: Gut-Loving Fermented Goodness

Our raw Beet Kvass is traditionally wild-fermented using organic beetroot, filtered water and organic New Zealand sea salt.

It's full of fermented goodness, including live lactic acid bacteria and organic acids produced during fermentation.

We add it once the mixture has cooled to help preserve those lovely live cultures.

The Gut and Sleep Connection

Did you know your gut and brain are constantly communicating?

This is known as the gut-brain axis, and emerging research suggests our gut microbes may play a role in sleep regulation, while poor sleep may also affect our gut microbiome.

It's another reminder that looking after our gut, eating a diverse range of plant foods and prioritising sleep are all connected.

Sleepy Gut Gummies Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup tart cherry juice (we love Eden Orchards)

  • ½ cup Clover Ferments Beet Kvass

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 3 tbsp grass-fed gelatin

Method

  1. Add the tart cherry juice, honey and gelatin to a small saucepan.

  2. Warm gently over low heat, stirring until the gelatin has completely dissolved. Don't boil it.

  3. Remove from the heat and allow to cool to room temperature while still liquid.

  4. Stir through the Beet Kvass once cooled to help preserve the live cultures.

  5. Pour into silicone gummy moulds.

  6. Refrigerate for approximately 1 hour, or until set.

  7. Pop them out and enjoy!

Storage: Keep refrigerated in an airtight container and enjoy promptly.

Although we can't tell you exactly how long they'll last in your fridge, because our first batch lasted approximately five minutes in our house.

A Little Reminder From Us

Looking after your gut doesn't need to mean overhauling your entire life.

Sometimes it's simply adding more plant diversity, prioritising sleep or finding little ways to include traditionally fermented foods in your daily routine.

These gummies aren't a sleeping pill or a cure-all. Just a delicious little recipe made with real ingredients.

Consistency over perfection. Always.🤍
